# Overview

Genius Docs Overview

## What is Genius?

Genius is multi-chain decentralized exchange that utilizes Lit Protocol to enable <10 second cross chain swaps. Genius functions by utilizing Lit’s TSS capabilities to create non-custodial cloud wallets for users, authenticate and automate user intent, orchestrate cross-chain user intent, and operate Genius’ on-chain liquid matching engine.

## Why Build Genius?

The current paradigm within web3 siloes liquidity on between different networks and has extremely high latency for end users. This leaves much to be desired regarding onboarding new capital on-chain and utilizing existing capital efficiently. Genius fixes all these problems while remaining non-custodial and decentralized allowing it to ultimately become the home for all of crypto globally. Furthermore, as Lit is at it’s core a robust signing protocol, Genius can integrate any dApp on the EVM, SVM, Cosmos or Bitcoin ecosystem while enabling chain and asset abstraction for users.

## What does Genius Enable?

Genius enables sub 10 second cross-chain swaps between EVM, SVM, Bitcoin, and Cosmos ecosystems. This includes baskets of any assets from any to chain to baskets of any assets on target chains. This core functionality can be extended to a variety of additional functionality not limited to cross-chain snipes, state-based orders (limits, stop-losses, whale tracking etc), that can be tracked via policies through Lit Actions.

Due to Genius’ unique liquidity architecture that effectively aggregates fees from all integrated networks into USDC versus being split between liquidity pools like a conventional DEX, Genius allows upwards of 40% APR on USDC stables, supported by the protocol’s volume, something not seen before in traditional or digital finance.

Furthermore, traditional wallets (rainbow, core, trustwallet, metamask etc.) and dApps can tap into Genius’ liquidity architecture to allow <10 second cross-chain swaps for their users.

## Why was this not possible before?

Previously, it was not possible as to achieve an architecture similar to Genius that was non-custodial and fully decentralized because an MPC wallet solution compatible with all chains did not exist. Lit Protocol is the first of it’s kind with similar alternatives cropping up e.g Turnkey, 0xPass, Nillion in the past few months.

There are fully centralized protocols that have some of the same functionality, e.g. [relay.link](http://relay.link),. However these systems are fully centralized and run from a controlled server and without doubt will be regulated as a money-transmission business due to their centralized nature.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://geniusterminal.gitbook.io/genius-docs/overview.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
